The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Lynae McKibben, a 2025 recipient of one of the nine Glen and Alice Beers Scholarship awards.
Lynae, the daughter of Krista McKibben and Bradley McKibben, is a 2024 graduate of Colonel Crawford High School. She is in her second year of a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science/Pre-Physical Therapy at University of Evansville.
What is your favorite aspect of college life and why?
"I love so many things about college! It is amazing how fast connections grow strong with friends, and I really enjoy getting involved in clubs and leadership positions. College is so amazing because you start out with so much free time, and then once you get involved in clubs and other organizations that you are passionate about, it quickly becomes really busy."
What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?
"I have been able to become a resident assistant this past semester, and I love getting to lead and serve other students in this way! I have also been able to still do cheerleading while at college, which has also been a huge blessing!"
In what way has the college experience changed/improved you?
"The college experience has helped me to become a more independent, confident young adult. I have been able to tackle challenging situations, and I have learned how to adapt when things get hard. Being away at college was the first time that I was without my twin; therefore, I had to step out of my comfort zone and learn how to go through everyday life all by myself."
What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?
"Go out of your comfort zone and try new things! Your freshman year will be filled with change, new friendships, and new experiences! The beginning of the fall semester will be challenging, and it will probably take time to find your group of people, but eventually you will find them! Enjoy every moment because it truly goes so fast!"
What is one item on your bucket list and why?
"One item on my bucket list is to study abroad. The University of Evansville owns Harlaxton College in England, and I plan on going there next summer! I have heard amazing things about the experience, and I cannot wait to learn all about different cultures! I will be there for around five weeks, and I will have the opportunity to travel to many different countries."
Congratulations and good luck in the future, Lynae!
