The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Madysen Young, a 2025 recipient of one of the 20 Doug and Renee Leuthold Scholarship awards and one of the 20 Margaret and Donald Wenner, MD Scholarship awards.
Madysen, the daughter of Amanda Jean Young, is a 2024 graduate of Bucyrus High School. She is in her second year of a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education at The Ohio State University- Marion.
What is your favorite aspect of college life and why?
"My favorite aspect of college life is getting to build a schedule around what works best for me while continuously working towards my degree in Early Childhood Education. When registering for classes, I, as a full-time student, am able to select specific courses that not only give me enough time to study and complete my schoolwork, but also enough to continue to work elsewhere throughout the school year."
What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?
"Going into college for Early Childhood Education, I was very excited to begin to learn more about different aspects of culture, society, community, and people for a lot of these things play a role in education and children. However, what I did not know was that I was going to gain an interest in courses that had to do with locations outside the United States involving their culture, traditions, educational practices, and so much more. This has truly given me a wider perspective on the original aspects I went into college hoping to learn about."
In what way has the college experience changed/improved you?
My college experience has helped me improve both mentally and socially. With the help of my courses and in-service learning throughout both elementary and middle schools, I have gained more confidence in myself, not only when it comes to completing academic work, but also when working with and connecting with my peers and students."
What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?
"My advice to an incoming freshman would be to focus on making a schedule, in and out of class, that not only accommodates coursework, for their wellbeing for work loads, deadlines, and/or requirements can somethines seem overwhelming. Getting into a steady but flexible rhythm will help with accomplishments, progression, as well as confidence in abilities."
What is one item on your bucket list and why?
"One item on my bucket list when it comes to my education is to get an Associate's Degree. By aspiring to complete this item on my bucket list, it is giving me more to keep working toward when it comes to my courses, credit hours, and grades."
Congratulations and good luck in the future, Madysen!
