Mackenzie LehmanThe Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Makenzie Lehman, a 2025 recipient of one of the 20 Doug and Renee Leuthold Scholarship awards.

Makenzie, the daughter of Kristin Lehman and Brock Lehman, is a 2024 graduate of Galion High School. She is in her second year of a Bachelor's Degree in Flight Technology and Operations at Bowling Green State University."

What is your favorite aspect of college life and why?

"Besides getting to pursue my dreams, my favorite part of college would have to be all of the people that I have met and the friends that I have made. Meeting people from all across the country has been very eye-opening. I really enjoy learning about them while also getting to navigate college life together."

What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?

"While at college, I discovered that I am very interested in weather. Although it is very closely related to aviation, I did not realize quite how fascinating the topic is until I took a Weather & Climate class last fall."

In what way has the college experience changed/improved you?

"The college experience has had many positive impacts on me. Being away from home for the first time really forced me to gain more independence. Additionally, my time-management and social skills improved drastically. Overall, the college experience has fostered positive change in all aspects of my life."

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

"Some advice that I would give to the incoming college freshmen is that self-motivation and time-management are essential. Professors are not going to track you down for a late assignment and your parents aren't there to make sure you get work done. Ultimately, you are responsible for your success. Another piece of advice I would give is to make sure you have fun. It is extremely important to have a good work-life balance. Not only will it help you relax, it will help you to focus better on your schoolwork. College is a great time, but you can't forget that you are there to learn!"

What is one item on your bucket list and why?

"One item on my bucket list would be to come back to BGSU after retiring and speak to the current aviation students. I think this would really be a full-circle moment. Furthermore, I would like to be able to show the students that hard work really can make your dreams a reality."

Congratulations and good luck, Makenzie!
