The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Ava Presler, a 2026 recipient of one of the five Kenneth Cummins Scholarship awards.
Ava, the daughter of Andrea Presler and Brian Presler, is a 2026 graduate of Buckeye Central High School. She is attending Ashland University and studying Nursing.
What inspired you to choose your intended major?
"I was inspired to choose to major in nursing for many reasons. Starting off, I was greatly interested in classes surrounding healthcare and anatomy, which gave me a stepping stone into the science behind nursing. Along with these classes, I chose to research nursing as a possible future career for myself in my senior seminar class. In this class, I got to not only take a deeper dive into the careers of nursing, but got to interview a former registered nurse. Hearing all of her stories of working in a hospital and caring for patients truly inspired me to pursue a field in healthcare. All of this along with my love of helping and caring for the people around me helped me find that nursing was the right fit for me."
What are your career and life goals after you graduate?
"After I graduate from Ashland University, I plan on pursuing a career as a registered nurse at one of the local Avita hospitals. They have given me a great entryway into this field by helping me learn the insides of nursing by allowing me to be a part of their Future Nurses of Avita program and having me do my clinicals for phlebotomy at the Bucyrus Hospital. Without these opportunities, I don't know if I would have found nursing to be the right fit for me. This also fulfills my goal of staying relatively close to home, as family is very important to me as well as giving me a way to give back to my community, which has been a big part in my successes."
