The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Brett Cheney, a 2026 recipient of one of the six Crawford County Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship awards, one of the four Merle and Peg Hutson Scholarship awards, one of the three Richard A. Miller Scholarship awards, and one of the three Stan and Carolyn DeGreve Scholarship awards.
Brett, the son of Olivia Cheney and Jared Cheney, is a 2026 graduate of Crestline High School. He is attending West Virginia University- Statler College of Engineering and studying Civil/Mechanical Engineering.
What inspired you to choose your intended major?
"I chose my major because I love to learn and find solutions for things. I am really good at math, and this major uses a lot of math to solve problems and build things. I hope to be able to make a difference in creating things where I live with my skillset I acquire after graduation."
What are your career and life goals after you graduate?
"After graduation, I want to move wherever the job takes me. I know that West Virginia University's Statler College of Engineering is very pristine and has a 99% job placement rate post graduation for their engineering students. I love to travel and have taken many family vacations in different parts of the United States. I am open to where the job takes me to make a difference in that state/town."
