The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Haylee Stratton, a 2026 recipient of one of the 20 Margaret and Donald Wenner, MD Scholarship awards.
Haylee, the daughter of Renee Stratton and Joshua Stratton, is a 2026 graduate of Bucyrus High School. She is attending The Ohio State University- Marion and studying Primary Education.
What inspired you to choose your intended major?
"I had a teacher in elementary school who helped me through a lot and always understood everything. During that school year, she really changed my view of school and helped me learn to love going to school. She introduced me to a lot of books, which sparked my love of learning and eventually helped me with classwork. She had supported me throughout all of my years at Bucyrus. I want to change a child's life and make them excited to come to school. Also, I want children to have big goals in life and believe they can do anything in life if they work hard for it. I love working with children and watching them reach goals, and the excitement they show is going to be so rewarding."
What are your career and life goals after you graduate?
"My career goals are to stay in the Crawford County area and get a teaching job at one of the schools around me, hopefully in third grade. I plan to teach elementary school and stay within the first to third grade levels. Eventually, I want to go back to school to become an intervention specialist. My life goals are to travel and visit many countries, along with spending time with my family."
