The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Lily Pifer, a 2026 recipient of one of the 20 Margaret and Donald Wenner, MD Scholarship awards.
Lily, the daughter of Paula Kaye Pifer and Alan Scott Pifer, is a 2024 graduate of Bucyrus High School. She is attending Marion Technical College and studying Radiology.
What is your favorite aspect of college life and why?
"My favorite aspect of college life is the environment. I enjoy meeting so many new people, especially those with the same future goals as me. College life has allowed me to make so many new friends and make memories I'll cherish forever."
What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?
"Going into college, the course of study I planned on entering was sonography. At that time I didn't have much knowledge of what exactly radiology was and what all modalities were included in it. However, after taking some pre-requisite courses, I came to the conclusion that radiology was a better fit for me. Throughout my time in the program I have learned about all of the different career paths I can take with a degree in radiology. Currently I am planning on working in MRI or the Cath Lab."
In what way has the college experience changed/improved you?
"The college experience has improved me by allowing me to come out of my shell. Being around so many new people has forced me to become more outgoing. Especially working in a hospital setting, I am always interacting with people I have never met before. Overall, this has helped me become more outgoing."
What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?
"Advice I would give a college freshman is to not be afraid to try new things. The major you begin studying in college may not be the same one you graduate with a degree in, and that is okay. It's better to take the time to find a field of study that best fits you, rather than working for a degree you don't enjoy."
What is one item on your bucket list and why?
"One item on my bucket list is to travel the world. I have always enjoyed traveling. I would love to visit more of the places around me and experience all different types of cultures."
Congratulations and good luck in the future, Lily!
