The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Marty Schuster, a 2026 recipient of one of the four Wynford FFA Rising Sun Scholarship awards.
Marty, the son of Leah Schuster and Martin Schuster, is a 2025 graduate of Wynford High School. He is attending Vanderbilt University and studying Pre-Law.
What is your favorite aspect of college life and why?
"I truly enjoy the social aspect of college life. Living so close to my friends and classmates means I get to spend a lot of time with the people I value most. However, I also get to meet so many new people who come from different places and backgrounds. Simply talking to others has helped me expand my understanding of the world I live in."
What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?
"I have taken a liking to journalism as I joined the Vanderbilt Political Review and plan to join the school newspaper this fall. I enjoy writing about my experiences as they focus on rural life, which many of my fellow students are not aware of. With journalism, I have freedom in the sense that I am not following a rubric."
In what way has the college experience changed/improved you?
"College has helped me improve my organization and responsibility. I do not have my parents to remind me to do things, so I make sure I stay on top of my tasks and work. In turn, I have been able to handle a busier schedule with more ease."
What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?
"Become involved in what you are passionate about and meet as many people as possible because college is a malleable experience, and following your passion will make that experience meaningful."
What is one item on your bucket list and why?
"I'd like to visit each state so that I can get a better understanding of what makes them unique and to meet new people different from me."
Congratulations and good luck in the future, Marty!
