Nathan RabunThe Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Nathan Rabun, a 2026 recipient of one of the six Arlene H. Smith Scholarship awards.

Nathan, the son of Corri Rabun and Scott Rabun, is a 2024 graduate of Wynford High School. He is attending Wittenberg University and studying Nursing.

What is your favorite aspect of college life and why?

"My favorite aspect of college life would be the community that school offered, and the community I have built for myself. The opportunities my swim team, residence life staff, and friends have given me have changed my life for the better. I have had more experiences than I could ask for and made connections that I hope will last a lifetime."

What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?

"Since I have been in college, I have gained an interest and passion for psychology and religious studies. I have had an affinity for psychology and love exploring the vast world of the human brain. College has given me the chance to explore courses that tie religion into healthcare, and how it affects healthcare and the psychology behind its healing and comforting abilities."

In what way has the college experience changed/improved you?

"These past few years have led to such growth in my personality and mindset. For one, I have become more goal oriented. While I have always worked towards goals, the fast-paced world of college life almost forces you to work hard and in the moment, because opportunities are fast moving and fleeting. In this way, I now work even harder to achieve my goals and continue bettering myself as a student and a future nurse."

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

"For incoming freshmen, I would suggest taking every opportunity that you can. Whether that be a social event, job opportunity, or extra work for your professor. Put yourself out there and just do your best! I have countless experiences and relationships that have come from seemingly random events or tasks. But it all makes for great stories and better company!"

What is one item on your bucket list and why?

"One of my biggest bucket list items is to travel out to the Pacific Northwest. I love to hike, and it is one of my favorite and best stress relievers. And I have always thought the PNW was such a gorgeous landscape and had so much to offer. What's better than the ocean or the mountains? Both!! And I can't wait to explore and hike all of it!"

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Nathan!
