What is your favorite aspect of college life and why?
"What is my favorite aspect of college life? Well, I have many different things that I love about it. If I have to chose one thing though, it would be that I get to really study and focus on the things that I am interested in. In high school everyone ( for the most part) takes the same courses, and they are not focused on the same things. Such as, math, science, English, and history. In college however, I get to take classes like Ballet, Medieval Monsters, and so much more. These classes have led me to better understanding what I like and what I want to do for the rest of my life. I now have 2 minors that I have added because of this. People say that you find yourself in college, and they truly mean it. It is not just a social thing, but also academic and personality."
What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?
"One new interest that I have is History. Growing up it was one of my least favorite subjects, but in college it goes more into depth and you can have more focused, in depth classes on specific time periods and topics. I have now taken multiple history classes and will be getting a history minor."
In what way has the college experience changed/improved you?
"College has really helped me in many ways, but it has really helped me to become a more open minded person. Coming from a small town, it has been a big shift and I have gotten to meet people from not only out of the state, but even out of the country. I have gotten to learn about different cultures, and to always try something new and talk to everyone I can. It is not only a learning experience in class, but also out of class and socially."
What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?
"One piece of advice I would give anyone is to be social and talk to others. My first day of school I met a group of people and talked to them and then made some of the best friends I could ask for. I also made a study group in some of my classes and without it I do not think I would have passed but I ended up passing with all As. I would also say to be active in class and talk to your teachers. My teachers are still willing to help me to this day if I need it, and I could not be more thankful. So in all, I have a lot of advice that I would want to give and have given. But just being out there and social really does help with everything."
What is one item on your bucket list and why?
"One of my bucket list items is to graduate with at least a double major. This will help me have more opportunities in the future to get a job that I can be passionate about. Being smart financially is one of the most important things to me, and this can help me later on in life. Which means scholarships to help me fund school are fundamental since I can not afford it on my own, and school will help set me up for my entire future."
Congratulations and good luck in the future, Raven!
