Posted by Rachel Jarvis on Fri, Jul 10, 2026

Shelby CumstonThe Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Shelby Cumston, the 2026 recipient of the Crawford Forward Scholarship award.

Shelby, the daughter of Sabrina Lynn Cumston and William Clayton Cumston, is a 2026 graduate of Galion High School. She is attending The Ohio State University- Mansfield this fall and studying Nursing.

What inspired you to choose your intended major?

"My mother was told she would never be able to have children. She had her first pregnancy with my sister and delivered prematurely. My mom had a really bad birth experience and didn't have the best nurses. When my sister was born, her lungs weren't fully developed, so she didn't live long. I want to be able to give mothers comfort in their most vulnerable state."

What are your career and life goals after you graduate?

"My career and life goals after I graduate are simple: I want to thrive in my career and hopefully be able to do on-the-job training to become an OBGYN. For my life goals, I just hope to be happy with a farm and a family."

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Shelby!
