The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Sophia Martin, a 2026 recipient of one of the six Crawford County Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship awards and one of the three Tyler Niese Memorial Scholarship awards.
Sophia, the daughter of Nancy Martin and Michael Martin, is a 2026 graduate of Buckeye Central High School. She is attending Bluffton University and studying Dietetics & Nutrition.
What inspired you to choose your intended major?
"I chose the major Dietetics and Nutrition for multiple reasons. First and foremost, I have been heavily involved in sports throughout my entire life. In high school, I began to love the sport of track and field. Through this, eating became something important and necessary to pay attention to. It was clear that I was not eating enough to run and compete at the level expected of me. By learning and immersing myself in this career path, I will not only have the ability to help myself, but to aid other athletes on how to fuel for best performance."
What are your career and life goals after you graduate?
"After graduation, I plan on pursuing a career as a Sports Dietician. I would like to work at a college near family and friends. My dream is to educate and instruct college sports teams on proper nutrition (especially track). Then, a goal of mine later in life is being a track coach and official (upon retirement)."
