The Community Foundation for Crawford County’s #Giving2sday Sets New Record

Posted by Lisa Workman on Thu, Dec 09, 2021

#Giving2sday again helped inspire generosity when it was celebrated by The Community Foundation for Crawford County on November 30th. With over $230,000 generated, this year’s event was a new record.

“We were very pleased with the outcome,” exclaimed Jennifer Stirm, Foundation Board member and Chair of their Development Committee. “Donors like knowing that their gift inspired a second one, as our Board contributed $25,000, and , so that a total of $32,500 was available to distribute to our participating funds on a pro-rated basis. #Giving2sday was created as a day that encourages people to do good, and that’s just what Crawford County did for our community!” The preliminary tally of $194,800 which donors raised combined with the pro-rated match and prize awards means that over $230,000 is being distributed to Foundation funds supporting good causes in Crawford County.

“Joining the #Giving2sday movement has been very rewarding for us,” added Lisa Workman, Foundation President. “It’s very inspiring to be part of a global movement of giving, collaborating and celebrating generosity.”

Thanks to a $1,500 contribution from Mizick Miller & Co., Inc, prize money of $500 each was added to the top earning fund in one of each of three categories. The winners of these $500 prizes were the Bucyrus Kiwanis Fund (agency funds), the Wynford FFA Rising Sun Scholarship Fund (scholarship funds), and the Galion Community Education Foundation Fund (school funds).

For the second year, there was a second contest – the FCBank Power Hour. All donors who contributed ONLINE from 6-7 pm on #Giving2sday were entered into a drawing every time they donated. Then three names were drawn, and those three individuals got to choose a fund that received an additional $500, thanks to a contribution of $1,500 from FCBank. Those winners and the funds that were awarded were Amber Wertman (United Way Designated Fund), Brian Smith (Crawford Works Fund), and Janel Hord (split between Crawford Works Fund and Bucyrus Y Future Fund).

The Community Foundation for Crawford County Holds Annual Fundraiser, #Giving2sday, on November 30

Posted by Lisa Workman on Mon, Nov 22, 2021

For the seventh year, The Community Foundation for Crawford County is participating in #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media. It is always celebrated the 1st Tuesday after Thanksgiving – which this year falls on November 30. Since participants are encouraged to embrace the day and make it their own, the Foundation calls it “#Giving2sday” as their Board sets aside a lump sum of money from which a second gift is generated for each donation. The “2” in the title is to help donors remember that their gift will inspire a second one. This year, the Foundation’s portion of that prorated match has been added to by The Mason Companies, E-Z-Go (a Textron Company), and Apex Clean Energy for a total pool of $32,500 to be distributed to participating Foundation funds.

The Community Foundation for Crawford County Recognizes Local Impact During Community Foundation Week

Posted by Lisa Workman on Thu, Nov 11, 2021

November 12-18 is National Community Foundation Week, and The Community Foundation for Crawford County wants to use this time to raise awareness of their local impact and the importance of community foundations in general. Community Foundations hold endowment funds that provide a perpetual source of income for nonprofit organizations. They also hold scholarship funds which seek to alleviate college debt, as well as increase our education attainment level. Finally, they are also a grantmaking public charity dedicated to improving the quality of lives for their community. Here locally, those grants have differed greatly in purpose and include everything from helping North Central State College Foundation with the Crawford Success Center, giving to the American Red Cross to help local families after house fires, and even granting from a COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund to tackle the immediate needs of local nonprofit organizations who were negatively impacted. Community foundations are also working more and more with local entities that drive economic and community development, like the Crawford Partnership. Such collaboration led the Foundation and the Partnership to start the community’s first social impact fund, the Program Related Investment (PRI) Fund. Local donors contributed the money and the PRI Fund offers zero interest loans to small businesses that have been financially impacted since the pandemic.
