The Community Foundation for Crawford County Recognizes The Salvation Army During Random Acts of Kindness Week

The Community Foundation for Crawford County surprised the local chapter of The Salvation Army with a $500 check during Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Week last week.

RAK Award

Launched in 1995, RAK Week is an annual opportunity to unite people around the world through kindness. This year, it was observed February 11-17, and the seven-day celebration demonstrates that kindness is contagious. The celebration is an opportunity for participants to leave the world better than they found it and inspire others to do the same.

Lisa Workman, Foundation President, explained the selection. “Last year saw no shortage of natural disasters, and Crawford County has been no exception with its tornadoes and house fires. In addition, so many non-profit organizations feel the financial pinch after the holidays when donors tend to forget that the needs they feel passionate about in December are still there. Knowing our local Salvation Army helps so many of our community’s residents each year, they seemed the logical choice for our first ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ award.”

The Salvation Army offers a free meal on the last full day of each month which feeds about 300 people. They also have a food pantry and can help provide clothing and temporary shelter in times of need. The current directors, husband and wife team Ray and Heidi Valdez, have been serving Crawford County since July 2017.

Last year, the Foundation distributed over $394,000 just in grants to local non-profit organizations alone. This does not include their robust scholarship program and distributions from endowment funds.
