We had a wonderfully successful Match Day this year! A grand total of $47,272.20 was donated by the community for endowment funds held at the Community Foundation for Crawford County. The CF4CC (fka BACF) has been hosting Match Day fund raising events since 2009. This is the first time in the history of the Foundation Match Days that the monetary goal was exceeded. The Foundation had challenged its organizations to raise funds towards their endowments and agreed to match up to $20,000. The citizens of Crawford County accepted that challenge and well exceeded the goal set by the CF4CC.

The Community Foundation has a great deal for you! To help make your donation dollars count even more, the CF4CC (fka BACF) has pledged $20,000 in matching funds for the endowment funds held at the CF4CC. The Foundation will match on a 1:1 basis every donation, up to $20,000. If the money raised exceeds $20,000, the money will be divided proportionally among the different agencies. This means that for every dollar you donate, your chosen organization will receive two dollars!

The "Great American Crossroads" and "Lady Liberty" murals are both in need of restoration. The Great American Crossroads mural at Millennium Park last required some restoration eight years ago. Most of this was paid for from the maintenance fund managed by the Bucyrus Area Community Foundation.

What began with the simple question of “What can we do help?” from a wife to her husband has resulted in the completion of a major fundraising initiative in Bucyrus. After hearing a presentation from Bucyrus Police Chief Ken Teets about the department’s K-9 unit during a Bucyrus Rotary meeting in February, Fred and Jackie Hendricks decided they needed to do something to help the Bucyrus Police Department secure the funds for Amigo’s replacement.

Over 10 years ago, two Bucyrus residents approached City Council with an idea to make the city a better place. The proposal to City Council, which was presented by Mr. Bill Leitzy and Dr. Ide, was for the construction of a bridge that would allow access to Aumiller Park and Unger Park from Southern Avenue. The two men saw a need for the bridge because of safety issues for people trying to get to the park. With the assistance of Jim Burris and Russell Fling, an architect and engineer respectively, a plan was developed for a wooden cable suspension bridge spanning the Sandusky River.

Highly trained dogs, often referred to as Police Service Dogs (PSD), are used in support of local law enforcement, working side-by-side with police officers in fighting crime. Dogs have one of the most acute senses for smell of any animal. These dogs can be trained for specialized duties or multi-purpose tasks. Their size, speed and natural canine senses give these four-legged animals the ability to carry out jobs that their human teammates cannot.
The Bucyrus Area Community Foundation is pleased to announce the grant allocation for the first half of the year 2012 totaling more than $245,000. During the first granting cycle this year, the BACF awarded grants in two categories: Competitive Grants and Multi-Year Grants.
