The fountain at Millennium Park on the square in downtown Bucyrus has been closed for the year. On Saturday, November 13th braving cold temperatures and a little snow, five volunteers of the non-profit organization Projects, Inc. cleaned and shut down the fountain. Pictured from left to right are Dick Hulsmeyer, Projects, Inc. President; Andy Furner, Projects, Inc. board member; Ken Cameron and Mike Hoffman, both volunteers and former Projects, Inc. board members; and Joe Shadeed, Projects, Inc. Treasurer. “We want to make sure to thank Advanced Fiber Technology. They graciously store the fountain cover over the summer when it is not in use,” said Dick Hulsmeyer. “Advanced Fiber Technology employees, Phil Taylor, Leonard Nickler and Shaine Rayborn were allowed time to haul the cover uptown and helped us install it over the fountain for winter on Monday, November 15th. It saves us time and is a big help to have those guys available.”

Have you seen the gorgeous hanging flower baskets lining Sandusky Avenue through downtown Bucyrus? If not, make sure you take notice the next time you walk or drive through town.
Pictured to the right are Harold and Marylyn Strang, two of the more than 40 volunteers that water these lovely baskets throughout the late spring, summer, and early fall. Harold is driving the new Bucyrus Beautification project watering tractor that was purchased thanks to funding provided by the John Q Shunk Foundation, Tractor Supply Company in Bucyrus, and the Walmart Foundation.

On Tuesday, May 5, The Community Foundation for Crawford County kicked off #GivingTuesdayNow, joining a global day of giving held specifically for the COVID-19 crisis response. Typically, there is only one #GivingTuesday in a calendar year, and it always occurs on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving; however, organizers felt an additional effort was needed this year to raise money for operational expenses during these uncertain and challenging times.
Here locally, the Foundation referred to their 2-day online fundraising event as #Giving2sdayNow. The Foundation provided the fundraising platform, and any nonprofit could register and use the site at no cost to them. In addition, the Foundation matched the first $25,000 raised online, and this match was increased to $35,000 thanks to the generosity of Doug and Renee Leuthold. The Foundation also covered all credit card fees.
