2014 Crawford County Scholarship Recipients

The Community Foundation for Crawford County is proud to introduce the 2014 Scholarship winners for the following scholarships:

The Kevin A. Binau Scholarship

Parents: Ronald and Jill Music
College Attending: Ashland University
Anticipated Major: Computer Information Systems
High School Highlights: "In the past four years I have athletically been involved in basketball, cross country, football and tennis. I was selected as a Supreme Court of Ohio student representative and guest speaker. Clubs I have participated in are Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Key Club, Student Council, Destination Imagination, Junior Statesmen of America, and Class Advisory Team. I was the President of National Honor Society, and Captain of the football and basketball teams. I served as percussion section leader in marching band and pep band, and was president of FCCLA Regional Executive Council. I graduated as Valedictorian from Crestline High School."

 

The John W. Brubaker, Jr. Scholarship

College Attending: Ohio University
Anticipated Major: Pre-Med (Biological Sciences)
High School Highlights: "Over the years I have been very involved in my high school with sports, clubs, volunteering and band. I am a member of National Honor Society and Girls Boosters. I was a Varsity runner on the Cross Country and Track teams. I have volunteered for the Bucyrus Public Library, the BackPack Program and the Elementary Afterschool Program. I was also a member of pep band and marching band for all four years where I was a squad leader for two of those years. Additionally, I currently attend Trinity Evangelical Church."

 

The Susan Campbell Memorial Scholarship

Anticipated Major: Power Equipment / Agricultural Systems Management
High School Highlights: "Throughout my high school career I have been mostly involved in agriculture. I worked at my grandpa's farm and was involved in FFA my Junior and Senior years. I was also involved in FCCLA and other school groups. My favorite thing to do, however, is spend time with my friends and make memories that I will have forever."

College Attending: Kent State University
Anticipated Major: Zoology
High School Highlights: "I have been involved in varsity swimming and varsity Track and Field. I have also volunteered for Leo Club and the Humane Society Serving Crawford County. I have also worked most of my free time at Baker's Pizza and Galion YMCA."

 

The Crawford County Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship

College Attending: Miami University of Ohio
Anticipated Major: Sports Journalism / Kinesiology
High School Highlights: "In academics I was the National Honor Society Co-President, Science Club Vice President, Class treasurer, and a student council member. I also was a 2013 delegate to Buckeye Boys State. Athletically, I was varsity captain and played safety for two years on the varsity football team. I was also captain on the basketball team and earned 2 letters. I also lettered in powerlifting, competing in many meets."

Parents: Jeffrey and Karla Schiefer
College Attending: University of Akron
Anticipated Major: Exercise Science
High School Highlights: Academics and athletics were the highlights of KarLee's high school career. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Vice President of Student Council and Salutatorian of her class with a GPA of 4.37. She was also active in volunteering for community events. Athletically, KarLee was very busy and dedicated to her love of sports, especially softball and basketball. Throughout her career, she was a team captain and was awarded many North Central Conference, Northwest District and OHSAA awards.

 

The Holmes-Liberty Alumni Scholarship

Anticipated Major: Sport Management and Business
High School Highlights: "One of the highlights of my high school career was reaching the goal of becoming Valedictorian of the Wynford Class of 2014. In addition, during high school I developed a passion for playing golf and was able to meet the goals I set at the beginning of my senior year as a member of the Wynford golf team. My academic and athletic experiences taught me that perseverance, patience, and enthusiasm contribute to success. I plan to use those attributes as I pursue a bachelor's degree in sport management and business at Bowling Green State University."

 

The Huggins Family Agricultural Scholarship

The Jeanne A. Miller Memorial Scholarship

Anticipated Major: Dietetics
High School Highlights: "In the last four years I have participated in many activites including volleyball, bowling, Interact Club and 4-H. I am the President of National Honor Society and Student Council and the Crawford County Junior Fair Board. I have played varsity softball for four years, coached a 12 and Under softball team for two years, and will continue to coach by being an assistant to the 15 and Under softball team this summer. I have enjoyed being a part of volunteering by being a first grade tutor for five years, too."

 

The Samuel Neff Fellowship for International Study

Emily DotsonEmily Dotson, Cleveland State University

Parents: Dave and Paula Dotson
High School Attended: Wynford High School
College Attending
: Cleveland State University
Anticipated Major: Technical Theater
College Highlights to date: Emily has been very involved at college.  She was the Cleveland State University spring play painting director, Cleveland State University student activities board member, Cleveland State University comic book club, camp Vike counselor, Cleveland State University freshman class council, and Cleveland State University mascot.  Emily is currently spending two summer semesters studing Arts and French in Paris, France.  She is studying at the Institut Catholique de Paris.  She lives with a host family along with two other U.S. students.  Along with drawing and photographing the sights in Paris, she will be taking short trips around Europe.  The program is through International Studies Abroad in connection with Cleveland State University.

 

The Dustin T. Stover Scholarship

Anticipated Major: Chemical Engineering
High School Highlights: "In high school I was involved in golf, football, basketball, and track and field. I was a member of Leo Club, Teen Institute and National Honor Society. I sang in the school show choir, "Vision." I wrote for the school newspaper, "The Babbling Beak." I also volunteered at "Little Eagles" basketball camps and football camps."

College Attending: University of Akron
Anticipated Major: Business Management
High School Highlights: "My activities in high school included working on my family's farm, sports, community service, and violin lessons. I helped on the farm wherever I was needed from field work, calf feeding, and breeding cows. I ran cross country and played basketball for four years. Habitat for Humanity house framings and four mission trips with my youth group were the focal points of my community service. I have also played the violin for 12 years and performed at graduation in 2013 and other various places."
